October 27, 2008 Update

The holidays are drawing near and the process of getting things to the children in Honduras has started. Essential items that have been collected throughout the year will now find there way to them. Thanks to all who have contributed

WE'RE BACK FROM THE MOUNTAINS OF HONDURAS AND WHAT A TRIP IT WAS!

Our trip to the mountains of Honduras was a great success. The medical team treated about 111 patients from the Pena Blanca area on the first clinic day. On the other three day we set out to very remote villages, even higher up in the mountains. All in all we saw 938 patients. Though on these trips we are primarily focused on preventing and treating malnutrition we broaden our scope of practice to include adding smiles to the faces of the children who find their way into our care. When we visited one village we brought a few soccer ball and after George and I checked in the last patient we went out to play in the the field next door to the school and played until the Doctors and pharmacy finished their work. Children big and small, both boys and girls played together for hours of fun, and willingly returned our equipment to us , which we then gave to the teacher for the children to use again.

Seeing things a little differantly
The next day I thought a less strenuous activity would be best so sun glasses were used to entertain on this particular day. They were a big hit. And so was I.

At another village we came armed with coloring book and crayon, I was not up for another soccer challenge, and here too the children were quite content to impress me with their artistic abilities but what I was most impressed with was there willingness to share as well as help each other.

These children may be poor for lack of possessions but they are rich in many ways.   Let us know what you think.

Next trip to Honduras April 18, 2008 to May 4, 2008

Our next trip to the mountains of Honduras will start shortly. We will accompany a medical team made up of 3 Dr.s, 2 Nurses, 3 health care professionals, 1 Nutritionist and George. During the first 5 days we will conduct several medical clinics. Probably 1 at the malnutrition clinic and orphanage in Pena Blanca, 2 more in the Pena Blanca area and 2 in the remote mountain region sourrounding Lake Yojoa. After a short visit to Mayan ruins at Copan the medical team will depart for the States, while Terri and George will return to Pena Blanca to further assess the needs and plan out our response to them. Please stop by again. Thank you for your interest!

Make it your mission to help!

We are looking forward to hearing from you
