WHAT'S A FEW WATTS
Having lived with electricity all our lives, we really don’t even think about what life would be like without it. We flip silent switches to turn on our lights and computers. Often we don’t even notice as our air conditioners, refrigerators, hot water heaters and freezers go on and off automatically. We don’t think twice about warming up our coffee in the microwave or cleaning the days dishes in the dishwasher or washing and drying a load of clothes in a couple of hours. We almost don’t notice, that is:
Till the power goes out!
That’s the way it is at the malnutrition clinic and orphanage in Pena Blanca, Honduras most of the time.
* No hot water showers
* No Lights to do your homework by
* No radio, No TV- to show VCR’s to the children
* No Computers
* No Refrigerator to keep your food safe
* No Washer and Dryer for clothes for 75 children
* No Woodworking Classes
* No Sewing classes
* No Auto Mechanic Classes
* No Cooking Classes
Not impossible certainly, but everything takes much, much longer:
Food shopping goes from once a week to once or twice a day.
What should be time for exercise and play after school, turns into homework time, while its still daylight.
Wash day goes from Monday, to every day!
Cooking goes from turning on the stove, to finding firewood and cooking over and uncontrollable flame.
Classes at the Technical School are almost impossible to conduct. No, wood working classes no sewing classes, no night classes
Life goes from living in the 21st to living in the 19th Century.
Electric Power in Honduras is spasmotic and the Most Expensive in Central America.
We need to purchase a large Diesel Generator (33,000 watts) to supplement the one small generator (5500 watts) in service at “Casita Feliz” to the Orphanage and Malnutrition Center Campus in Pena Blanca, Honduras.
So, How about a few Watts ?
